  SOLITUDE Solitude is the state or situation of being alone. Isolation and seclusion mean the state of one who is alone. It is the state or condition of being apart from all human beings or being cut off. Solitude refers to the state of being completely alone, cut off from all human contact, and sometimes stresses the loneliness of such a condition. Solitude, also known as social withdrawal, is a state of seclusion or isolation, meaning lack of socialization. The effects of solitude can be either positive or negative, depending on the situation. Short-term solitude is often valued as a time when one may work, think, or rest without disturbance. It may be desired for the sake of privacy.
